Long Description:
The trail linked the tiny village with Sioux City Iowa. After the Amidon slayings, Sioux Falls City was abandoned. In 1865, the 7th Iowa Volunteer calvary reached the ruins of Sioux Falls City and built Fort Dakota there. After Fort Dakota closed, Sioux City merchants used this road to transport lumber and materials to rebuild Sioux Falls.
