Long Description:In 1936, the Plaza Theater opened it's doors for the exciting world premier of the now-classic motion picture
Camille with the film's co-star Robert Taylor in attendance. As well as films in the early years, national radio shows of Jack Benny and Bob Hope were broadcast from the Plaza. Live performance by Frank Sinatra, Donald O'Connor and others graced the stage at the Plaza. Over time, movie ticket sales fell off and the theater finally closed in 1987.
In 1991, the Palm Springs city fathers asked retired television producer Riff Markowit to come up with ideas for this almost derelict building. He conceived and created a classic Follies and then - joined by partner Mary Jardin - added one notable exception,
the cast must have actually lived through the era which they were going to portray.
The
Fabulous Palm Springs Follies were born and now in its second decade it is still playing to packed houses.
