Long Description:
There are 3 distinct beaches along the length of 7 Mile Beach. Gerroa in the north, national park in the middle & Shoalhaven Heads at the southern end. The most popular with families is Gerroa. It is protected by a headland, has small, well formed waves, is shallow & has rock platforms nearby to explore.

Access is either via a pedestrian bridge over the Crooked River or down a flight of steps to a section north of the river. The river's mouth is usually shallow & only poses a problem after heavy rain. The beach is patrolled during the summer season by surf life savers from nearby Gerringong.

There is a cafe reasonably close but generally families take everything they need for a day on the beach. Toilets are available in a park some 200 metres from the bridge. There are huge open sandy areas which host all types of beach games. As well kite flying is popular & the beach often hosts kite flying clubs with some amazingly large kites. The waters off the beach play host to wind surfers & kite surfers & these can be very exciting to watch when the winds pick up.

The bay's waters are popular with whales & it has a semi permanent pod of dolphins. Some years ago a house was being auctioned at Gerroa & half way through the auctioneer had to stop as bidders were distracted by the antics of a pod of dolphins below. It sold for a handy price.

The section north of the river is used to launch powered boats so vehicles have access to this part but otherwise vehicles are not allowed. Horses are off limits & dogs must be on a leash. Nudism is not allowed although topless bathing has been allowed on most Australian beaches for many years. In the peak summer season the beach is packed & you need to arrive early to get a park.

7 Mile Beach is renowned for fishing with sand whiting, jewies & tailor the most popular species. It is backed by a national park of the same name.
