Long Description:
The Bank of New Zealand erected this building in 1878 along Thames Street, the financial district. Oamaru was trying to establish itself as the main export harbour for the lambing and sheep industry. However, it never captured the shipping from Port Otago to the south.
Today this building is in use as the Visitor Information Centre.
