In a small memorial park on a hill in Maheno stands a giant oak tree.

"Planted to commemorate the Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth by Colonel J Cowie Nichols CBE,VD,ADC,JP. of Kuriheka. 12th May 1937."
