Long Description:
Based on information from the church website. Departing from the German Gothic tradition, St. Benedict's church features a Romanesque design with two large towers with distinctive cupolas rising 125 feet. The original dome featured a huge statue of St. Michael the Archangel, protector of the Church. Alas, in July 1930, a fire destroyed the church to just its walls. Due to the hard economic times, the rebuilt structure eliminated the dome and less lavish interior decorations. It continues to this day with an active congregation and parocial school.
