Long Description:
We pass this structure regularly and have never stopped to examine it closely but we had a reason to stop to waymark it today.
The arch marks the driveway entrance which is a grand avenue of trees and grassland stretching from Yardley Chase and being 4 miles long. The drive dates back to 1695.
The parkland was relandscaped by Capability Brown who completely changed the atmosphere of the grounds forever to a more natural feel, to some people's disgust. It was at this time that the entrance lodges and arch were added during approx. 1764.
Type: Gateway
 Subtype: Municipal/Regional Entrance
 Location: Castle Ashby Estate
