Long Description:
One of six dams located within 12 miles of Great Falls.
This 3-unit hydroelectric dam has a total generating capacity of 21 megawatts. The dam is 753 feet long and 13 high. It is classified as a "run-of-river" dam which means it does not need to store additional water supplies to create power.
This dam is located near Giant Springs State Park and several Lewis & Clark Historic sites.
Originally built in 1891 then replaced in 1926.
Black Eagle Memorial Island was opened in 2005. The island enables the public to day hikes, kayaking, canoing, fishing & picnicking next to the beauty of the falls over the dam.
