Blue Star Memorial Highway Markers
 allows ratings
Blue Star Memorial Highway Markers are located throughout the United States. Since 1945, when the Blue Star program began, they have been placed to honor the servicemen and women of the U.S. Armed Forces. Click on "show additional information" below for category requirements.
Expanded Description:

Blue Star Memorial Highway Markers are upright metal markers, similar to highway historic markers in many states.

They are usually placed along major highways and at Interstate Highway rest stops, but are also found in parks dedicated to veterans or near veteran's or military memorials.

These markers are paid for, installed and maintained by local garden clubs and are often placed in a garden or landscaped setting.

They are placed to honor all who serve, or have served, in the Armed Forces of the United States.

Instructions for Posting a Blue Star Memorial Highway Markers Waymark:

The requirements for this category are simple:

Locate a Blue Star Memorial Marker.

TWO PHOTOS ARE REQUIRED. No GPS in shot and high quality please. (No low-res camera phones.) Take a close-up of the marker itself - like you see above.

Then take a second photo of the marker in its setting, i.e. a wide shot showing the surroundings or landscaping, taken about 20 to 30 feet from the marker, like you see below:

Clear, daytime photos only. We need to be able to clearly see the surroundings and the marker. If it's dark or raining heavily, you need to return when a quality photo can be taken.

Please note that Blue Star Markers you submit must be the special metal markers, not regular highway signs that state a highway is a "Blue Star Memorial Highway."

Take an accurate GPS reading at the marker.

Note the name of the garden club or clubs and all other organizations that placed the marker.

Please use the following format for the name of the marker: "Name of Highway or Location, City, State".

For example: "Freedom Memorial Park, Fayetteville, NC" or "Old U.S. Highway 99, Burbank, CA". So that waymarks may be searched by others, only waymarks that conform to this naming convention will be accepted.

Thanks for your submission.
