"Historic preservation or heritage conservation is a endeavor that seeks to preserve, conserve and protect buildings, objects, landscapes or other artifacts of historic significance. Other names for the discipline include urban conservation, landscape preservation, built environment conservation, built heritage conservation, object conservation, and immovable object conservation; however, "historic preservation" is generally used in reference to activities in the United States and Canada."

There are organizations, cities, countries and states that give awards to recognize and to promote the best activities and practices in historic preservation in their area. Your aim is to locate those award winning sites in the world.
Awarded sites can be for example:
* Single buildings or groups of buildings in rural or urban setting
* Industrial and engineering structures and sites
* Cultural landscapes: historic parks and gardens, larger areas of designed landscape, or areas of cultural, environmental and/or agricultural significance
* Archaeological sites, including underwater archaeology
* Works of art and collections: collections of artistic and historic significance or old works of art.
One example for international organization that promotes historic preservation is Europa Nostra. It is a pan-European federation for Cultural Heritage, founded in 1963.
Europa Nostra Awards have been given to recognize and promote best practices in heritage conservation on a European level since 1978. Since 2002 the Europa Nostra Award is also the "European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage"
Example of more local award program of this type is the Governor's Historic Preservation Awards in California. Their award winners are listed in their website.
