According to Wikipedia: Birdwatching, or birding, is the observation and study of birds with the naked eye or through a visual enhancement device like binoculars.

Multitudes of people all over the world engage in the ornithological hobby known as Birdwatching, or Birding. Several groups have organized as global advocates for birds, providing education and protection for these beautiful animals.

Some of these organizations include:
• British Trust for Ornithology [BTO]
• Royal Society for the Protection of Birds [RSPB]
• National Audubon Society
• American Birding Association [ABA]
• BirdLife International

The birdwatching location must be for the primary purpose of birdwatching, be designated by a government entity or other preservation society with interests in protecting birds and have a sign to identify the area for birdwatching. The public must visit this location with the intention of birdwatching.

When birdwatching, please mind the Code of Birding Ethics, published by the American Birding Association.

There are laws that protect birds who are both on and off the Endangered Species list.
Do not break any laws while posting or visiting a waymark.

Instructions for Posting a Birdwatching Locations Waymark:

To post a waymark to this category, waymarkers must submit the following:
• a minimum of two clear, original images that include
→ a legible image of a sign which identifies the area as a birdwatching location (eg. aviary, birding trail, habitat, nesting area, etc.)
→ an image of at least one preferred site at this location which is best set up for viewing birds. This can be an image of a bird blind, a raised platform, etc.
• more images, especially of birds, is strongly encouraged
• coordinates to the Birdwatching Location using a handheld GPSr at a distance that provides sufficient view without creating any disturbance to the wildlife
• include at least one multiple sentence paragraph on what visitors can hope to see when coming to this waymark and please mention some of the types of birds a visitor should keep a look-out for.

Zoos and Theme Parks that provide education to the public, are actively involved in preservation, and provide an aviary for people to view and interact with the birds will be accepted. Waymarkers posting this type of location should complete the Entrance Fees variable and provide information within the Long Description that details the work the location does to help birds.

Creating waymarks for Endangered Species of birds is strongly discouraged but will be accepted if the location is in a public place that is knowingly visited often by the public, meets the requirements of the category, and gives a clear effort to protect the birds.
