Managed By: Icon Here Let's Open
Description:
To Waymark plaques and monuments placed to celebrate the opening/inauguration of a large variety of locations by a person.
Expanded Description:
Opening or inauguration, are terms used when a public office, a business, private association or other have the official opening of a new location. Usually when this happens a party is promoted to have a opening/inauguration ceremony and normally someone important or famous is invited to make the opening/inauguration, and to mark the date a small monument or a plaque is placed that usually says something such as the simple example which you can see below:

--::--

THIS BUILDING
WAS OPEN (or)
INAUGURATED BY
THE PRESIDENT OF
THE CARTOON CITY
MICKEY MOUSE
IN 1/1/1928

--::--

These plaques and small monuments are open windows to better know the history of the places where they are. Is possible to find them throughout the world in many different locations, and through them we can find out who had the honor of being immortalized along with the location and we can also discover a little about who they were and why they had that honor.
The places where they can be found are varied such as streets, roads, trails, churches museums, parks, dams, lakes, shopping centers, parks, monuments, and many others. And it can be the opening/inauguration of something new but can also be the opening/inauguration of a restoration, renovation, redevelopment or other.

To qualify to be submitted in this category the plaque must say that the location was opened/inaugurated by someone.

Below you can see some examples of what is and what is not accepted in the category.
