A dam is a barrier across flowing water that obstructs, directs or retards the flow, often creating a reservoir, lake or impoundment.
This category wants to waymark all those structures around the world.
Expanded Description:
This category accepts all types of water dams.
The Dams must be man made and must still be in use (ancient ruins or failed dams are not allowed).
Ancient water dams (Example: Roman Water Dams) can be waymarked if they are still used to obstruct, direct or retard the water flow.

Please include all information you can gather about the Water Dam, and, if possible, a brief history of the building, it´s characteristics, any funny or strange story that happened there, and, of course, some pictures.

Because this is an international web site and game with visitors from all around the world it´s important that everyone can understand what´s written. That´s why we ask you that all texts be in English or have English translation of the original text. Please understand why.

Changes after 27th September 2011 (all aproved waymarks are considered Grandfathered)

1 - Waymark name should be: Water Dam Name - City, State/Country.
2 - Photos: All waymarks must have at least one photo.
If you can, please post a photo of the wall and another of the lake.
3 - Coordinates should be from the wall if possible
4 - Waymark must have a short and a long description

Thirlmere dam was completed in 1894, to create a reservoir to supply clean water to the growing population 100 miles away in Manchester. The dam wall is actually two dams with a natural rock outcrop in the middle.
