Description:
This Waymark Category is for recording the coordinates of evidence of New World cultures who lived in the Americas in pre-historic times. These include, bedrock mortars (Indian grinding holes), ruins of dwellings, petroglyphs, pyramids, and other. These sites may still be considered sacred and all sites are protected under US Federal Law.
Expanded Description:

Humans came to the western hemisphere tens of thousands of years ago. Since then they have created cultures that left hints of their way of life throughout the Americas.

Waymarks that fit in this category can range from the great pyramids and ruins of the Maya and Inca to smaller ruins and more subtle evidence such as bedrock mortars (Indian grinding holes) and Yoni rock sculpture.

Any evidence of Native American culture and habitation may qualify. If you find one of these sites, remember that these sites may still be considered sacred and treat them as such. Remember that all Native American sites are protected by U.S. Federal Law.

Do not disturb the site in any way.

In order to qualify the waymark must:

    Be permanent

Likely created prior to the arrival of Europeans

    Be in the Western Hemisphere

Be in their natural context (museums and reconstructions will not be accepted)

Not knowingly infringe on sacred land.

Instructions for Posting a New World Ancient Evidence Waymark:

To post a Waymark in this category, include the coordinates of the object, as well as trailhead coordinates, if they will be helpful for someone wanting to find the site.
