Description:
Memorials, monuments, and sites honoring the Nobel Laureates of the world.
Expanded Description:

Every year since 1901 the Nobel Prize has been awarded for achievements in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and for peace. The Nobel Prize is an international award administered by the Nobel Foundation in Stockholm, Sweden. In 1968, Sveriges Riksbank established The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, founder of the Nobel Prize. Each prize consists of a medal, personal diploma, and a cash award.

Around the world there are plaques, memorials and special sites honoring nobel laureates and their accomplishments.

In order to qualify as a waymark, a site must identify the specific laureate and include a clear reference to his/her status as a Nobel laureate. The connection must be clear.

Any type of memorial, plaque or commemorative site will qualify, as long as there is a clear identity and connection.

Some examples of sites that may NOT qualify are: The university or institution with which the larureate is associated, the town where they live, an institution or other place bearing their name, etc.
UNLESS there is a plaque, monument, or something clearly commemorating the person's Nobel laureate status. In the case of an organization recipient of the award, the same standards apply - some clear commemoration of laureate status must exist at the waymark site. The same standards apply to streets and signs named for laureates. This will NOT be accepted.

The official website with a list and description of the awards and the recipients can be found at: The Nobel Prize.
Instructions for Posting a Nobel Laureates Waymark:

1. NAMING CONVENTION: The waymark name must begin with the name of the prize category in upper case, followed by the full name of the Nobel laureate the year of the award, and the location of the site of the waymark.

EXAMPLE: LITERATURE: John Steinbeck 1962 - Chicago, IL

EXAMPLE: PEACE: Kim Dae-Jung 2000 - Seoul, KOREA

The six prize categories are:

CHEMISTRY
LITERATURE
PHYSICS
PHYSIOLOGY/MEDICINE
PEACE
ECONOMICS

2. PHOTO REQUIREMENTS: In most cases a waymark in this category will require at least two photos -- one overview of the commemorative site or memorial, and one clear close-up photo showing the text, name or other identification of the site or memorial. All photos must be original (no copyrighted photos or ones copied from a web site), and must be uploaded to the waymark photo gallery.

3. Coordinates must be obtained by a personal visit to the waymark site.

4. Description: An attempt must be made to supply an informative description, both of the Nobel laureate being honored and the site being waymarked. This shouldn't be a lengthy biography, but a brief sketch with particular reference to the work that brought recognition by the Nobel Prize Committee.

NOTE: If you copy and paste from another source, you MUST give proper attribution and a link to the web page or other reference!
