Description:
A site to way mark all kinds of mines from around the world, working or abandoned mines, metal (ie Tin, Copper, Zinc etc) or non metal mines (ie Coal, Diamond, Salt etc). To exclude quarries (ie where road stone or a none specific mineral is worked. To include open pits / mines ie Coal, Copper, Gypsum etc). Excludes natural caves unless exploited for mineral (ie Derbyshire Blue John Mines or similar). Can include named placer or alluvial mine sites.
Expanded Description:
Any mine anywhere in the world no matter what is or was mined. This can include all metal or non metal mines or open mine pits but definitely no road stone or similar type quarries or natural caverns unless specific named minerals were mined commercially from them. Tourist mine sites are welcomed. Can include mines that have been filled in even if site cant readily be identified, many have little or no remains left and have been built over.

Instructions for Posting a Mines Waymark:
Photos of the mine either surface or underground would be encouraged but is optional as not all have access to digital cameras. Historical pictures can be posted as long as copyright isn't breached. If known what was or is currently mined, when the mine was worked approximately ie 1800's 1850's 1900's and so on. If known what obvious and not so obvious dangers - ie unfenced shafts, uncertain ground, Toxic materials, radioactivity etc. Just common sense things to make it safer for persons to visit. Legal access ie are the mines on common public land or on private land with no access, if known are there any minerals for collectors and can they be legally taken. There will be a free text box to allow persons to post whatever additional information of interest they feel may be of use.
