Long Description:
Though not totally an enigma, this machine is a bit of a conundrum. It appears to be a tie laying machine, used for replacing old, rotted ties. There doesn't seem to be provision for actually placing the ties. This was possibly done either manually or with another machine, followed by this machine, which positioned the ties. Too, it's possible that this was the machine which removed the old ties prior to replacement. Either way, it's a cool machine.

It's powered by a 2 cylinder, air cooled Wisconsin engine, probably of 15 to 20 HP. The engine drives a hydraulic pump, which drives the entire machine. The serial number tells us it was manufactured in January of 1968 - later than I would have suspected. Wisconsin lists a single legacy 2 cylinder engine - the THD3, which produced 18.2 HP from 53.9 cubic inches of displacement. This one is stamped "Model T-D". Could be one and the same.
