Quick Description: I was foraging black raspberries nearby, and bringing my dog to the dog park nearby when I discovered this high density foraging location. I could harvest several quarts of very large, lush blackberries without moving.

Long Description:
The harvest this year (2012), promises to be a bumper crop, but we are still several weeks from harvest (as of June 18). The berries are green, and some flower petals remain (see picture of berries in closeup!) Can you beat me to them when the time comes? I think there's still plenty to share. Although many people use the park, and the canal towpath nearby, nobody seems to be there to forage!

The easiest route is to go to Elmgrove Road (Route 386) to the entrance of the Greece Canal Park, then follow the signs to the Dog Park. From the parking lot, (coordinates: N 43° 11.419 W 077° 44.184) walk west, and look to south (to your left. You will see them before you get to the paved trails connecting the Canal Park to the Erie Canal towpath. There are a few stray black raspberry bushes and some wild grape nearby as well.

An alternative approach would be to park at Henpeck Park, following the directions to the black raspberry patch (waymark (visit link) ), but continue walking to the landing/dock area further west. Turn north (right) on the paved trails, then east (right again) through a break in the trees toward the dog park. Look for them on your right before you get to the parking lot.

Update 20120711: Blackberries are coming along, but I only spotted 2 that have turned black, and those two were still very tart. I'd say they are still at least a week away from optimal harvesting. Pictures posted.
