Long Description:
The Tom Thumb Theatre is one of the world's smallest theatre's. It was built originally as a Coach House in 1896, but by 1984 the building, which was being used as a double garage was almost derelict. It was purchased by Lesley and Sarah Parr-Byrne who first converted it into the tiny theatre it is today, capturing in such a small space, the lush and charming atmosphere of a Victorian Theatre in its hey-day. It has the smallest stage of any public theatre in the world measuring just 7ft x 10ft. Sadly, Lesley past a way in 2006 and the theatre languished. Fearing that the theatre would be snapped up by property developers, a local family purchased the theatre in 2009 and they themselves have refurbished and installed up-to-date lighting and sound equipment. Today it is a popular tourist attraction in Thanet with regular performances by professional actors/actresses and musicians throughout the summer season and is full to capacity during the annual pantomime.
