Long Description:
This mailbox can be found on Whirinaki Valley Road near the SH.30 end, just south of Rotorua.

The popular Pukeko has been used to construct this unique home mailbox. It is made from corrugated iron.

The Pukeko is one of New Zealand’s most recognised birds to locals and tourists alike, often seen in groups on roadside areas or swampy ground. Their startling colours stand out against New Zealand’s greenery and they are truly a beautiful and magnificent bird. The Pukeko is deep blue with black head, wings and back are black with a greenish tinge, under tail is pure white and flicks as they walk, bill and shield are scarlet, eyes red and feet and legs orange-red. Although their large feet are not webbed, they are good swimmers and swift runners.
