"Welcome to Vance Brand Airport, one of the most popular general aviation airports of its kind in Colorado.

Vance Brand Airport is located approximately 3 miles SW of Longmont, Colorado and rests at 5,052 feet of elevation (1,539 meters). The Latitude/Longitude is: 40-09-49.217N / 105-09-46.933W." (from (visit link) )

"Vance DeVoe Brand (born May 9, 1931) is an American former naval officer and aviator, aeronautical engineer, test pilot, and NASA astronaut. He served as Command Module Pilot during the first U.S.-Soviet joint spaceflight in 1975, and as Commander of three Space Shuttle missions.

His flight experience includes 9,669 flying hours, which includes 8,089 hours in jets, 391 hours in helicopters, 746 hours in spacecraft, and checkout in more than 30 types of military aircraft. Vance Brand Airport in Longmont, Colorado, is named in his honor." (from (visit link) )

This sculpture resides at the entryway to Vance Brand Municipal Airport (Airport Road) and represents the evolution of flight, beginning with birds, progressing to bi-planes, airplanes and ultimately the modern day rocket ship.
