Long Description:

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1759–1805) is generally considered the most famous and most influential German poet. The 12 feet tall bronze Goethe-Schiller Monument in his hometown Weimar was created in 1857 by sculptor Ernst Friedrich August Rietschel. It is a pilgrimage target for literature buffs from all over the world.

Goethe Basin is an impact basin on the northern hemisphere of Mercury. It was dedicated by B. C. Murray and others after a close examination of pictures taken by Mariner 10.
