"Polaris (a UMi, a Ursae Minoris, Alpha Ursae Minoris, commonly North Star, Northern Star or Pole Star, also Lodestar, sometimes Guiding Star) is the brightest star in the constellation, Ursa Minor, and the 45th brightest star in the night sky. It is very close to the north celestial pole, making it the current northern pole star."

Nordstern coalmine has been transformed from a colliery site into a park with playgrounds, restaurants and venues for events in the Ruhr Area.
Coal miners had been working in this colliery from 1868 to 1982.
Since 1995 it is a monument in Gelsenkirchen.
It is situated in the northwestern part of the town in the Nordsternpark.
