This ship was built in Finland as a minesweeper and launched in 1957. It served the Finish Navy with the name Rymattyla. Later, in 1979, the ship was modified and shaped as a patrol and anti-submarine ship.

In 1999 this and her twin, Rihtinemi, were offered to Estonia. The names of these two ships in Estonia were inspired in vessels serving the Navy of the first independent Estonia, in the 20's. They served as training ships until 2006.
