De Dokwerker (The Docker) is a statue found inside Toronto City Hall's main concourse that was presented by the mayor of Amsterdam. It commemorates an act of defiance against the Nazi's persecution of Jews.

AGAINST THE PERSECUTION OF THE JEWS
BY THE GERMAN FORCES OF OCCUPATION

PRESENTED BY THE MAYOR OF AMSTERDAM, ED VAN THUN
ON 1 NOVEMBER 1989

This statue is a scale model of the original that is located in Amsterdam. The statue commemorates the first direct action undertaken against the anti-Jewish measures of the Nazis in occupied Europe, and it was carried out by non-Jews.
