Long Description:
One west side of Peoria, Il, is the small village of Norwood, which has the same name as a town outside of Boston, Massachusetts.

The village of Norwood, IL, is a small square incorporated area that is mostly residential. According to Wikipedia, it has a population of 473 people (2000 Census) in an area of just 0.29 square miles. At the center is the village hall and a place to eat. There is also a school outside the boundary with Norwood on it. I can't find much about the village such as the date of establishment. It is a suburb of the city of Peoria.

The town of Norwood, MA, is a New England town, that has a mixture of residential, commercial, and industrial activity. It has a population of 28,602 (2010 Census), with an area of 10.6 sq miles and was established in 1872. Norwood was named after Norwood in the Croydon Borough of South London. Thus, Norwood, IL, would share the name with that settlement, as well. Norwood has a municipal airport and was once a major center for printing.

Research about Norwood in England revealed that there are actually several areas named Norwood in the borough. There is South Norwood, West Norwood, and Upper Norwood. They were named after the great oak forest there, a contraction of the "North Wood."
