Long Description:
William Wilson was a manufacturer of Stanningley, a large village approximately three miles to the south-east of Calverley. The only factory reference I can find as being owned by a 'Wilson' in Stanningley was a Crank plate manufactory owned by William Wilson in 1829, and by William Wilson in 1834. Both references in Pigot's Directories for those years.

White's directory of 1870 has one William Wilson as a resident.

The obelisk is of polished grey marble set on a square base on a step. It was originally within a metal railed enclosure but the railings have long since gone, probably during WWI when a call went out for metal for the war effort. The inscription on the east side of the square base is as follows:-

               In Affectionate Remembrance
                      William Wilson
              Manufacturer, of Stanningley,
                 Who Died July 25th 1875,
                      Aged 75 Years.
