Long Description:
The memorial is made from Portland stone and stands on a plinth. It is an obelisk design and has very worn inscriptions which read as follows:

Inscription (Front Plaque)
'Erected in

soldiers and sailors
who during the late war
with Russia died of their
wounds and are buried
in this garrison.'

Inscription (Rear Plaque)
'Erected
by the
Debating Society
of Portsmouth and
by their fellow townsmen.
June 10th 1857.'
