Long Description:
Located just inside the front entrance. St. Patrick, the patron Saint of the Irish, stands at the front of this cemetery. New Orleans has a large Irish population, so large in fact, that there are 3 St. Patrick cemeteries within this 1 block area. All 3 were formed in the 1840's. A bit of info about St. Patrick
He lived from c. 387ad to March 17th 493. St. Patrick's day is celebrated on his death day, March 17th. He is the patron Saint of Ireland, and legend credits St. Patrick with banishing snakes from the island. He also is credited in using the shamrock to illustrate the Holy Trinity.
