Long Description:
The square was originally a courtyard outside Sheffield Boys School. The buildings are now grade II listed, and have a history dating back to 1879. The buildings housed one of the first secondary school to be opened by the newly formed school boards in England.

These days the buildings have all been converted to restaurants and a hotel. All the restaurants have outside seating and there are also benches in the square.

The fountain was built as part of the development of the square into a leisure area and enhances the ambience of the square. The redevelopment of the square began in 2004 and won an architectural award in 2010.

The fountain sits in a narrow stone trough along the length of one side of the square and has 21 individual jets of water.
