Long Description:
Local legend Burt Monro worked for 20 years on a Indian Scout motorcycle to develop them as the fastest motorcycle to operate. "Munro set his first New Zealand speed record in 1938 and later set seven more. He travelled to compete at the Bonneville Salt Flats, attempting to set world speed records. During his ten visits to the salt flats, he set three speed records, one of which still stands today." (Wikipedia)

In 2005 Monro's story was turned into a movie staring Anthony Hopkins. The World's Fastest Indian was shot on location in Invercargill and the Bonneville Flats in Utah.

The movie has inspired locals to have an annual Burt Monro Challenge which features motorcycle races at Teretonga race track and in Wyndham, which is Monro's childhood home.
