RECOVERY NOTE BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1956 (WRH) THIS STATION MARK WAS FOUND IN GOOD CONDITION BUT IN THE WAY OF ROAD CONSTRUCTION. THE REFERENCE MARKS WERE FOUND TO HAVE BEEN DISTURBED, AND THE AZIMUTH MARK GONE. THE STATION MARK WAS LOWERED AT ITS ORIGIONAL POSITION TO A DEPTH OF 10 INCHES BELOW THE SURFACE OF THE SLOPE OF BANK. STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 5.0 MILES SOUTH OF LISBON, 2.0 MILES EAST OF THE JUNCTION OF STATE HIGHWAYS 164 AND 518 AT VILLAGE OF GAVERS, 0.3 MILE NORTH OF STATE HIGHWAY 518 ON THE WEST SIDE OF A GRAVELED ROAD NORTH-SOUTH, AT THE TOP OF A GRADE AND AT THE NORTH END OF CURVE, 18.5 FEET WEST OF THE CENTER OF ROAD AND 3.5 FEET WEST OF THE WEST DITCH LINE, 10 INCHES BELOW THE GROUND SURFACE OF LOW CUT. REFERENCE MARK NO. 3 WAS SET 34 FEET EAST OF THE CENTER OF THE ROAD, 15.995 METERS OR 52.48 FEET FROM STATION IN BEARING S 80 DEG 36 MIN 19 SEC E. REFERENCE MARK NO. 4 WAS SET 32 FEET WEST OF THE CENTER OF ROAD AND 3.5 FEET ABOVE THE ROAD, 12.137 METERS OR 39.82 FEET FROM STATION IN BEARING S 30 DEG 40 MIN 19 SEC W. A NEW AZIMUTH MARK WAS SET 0.25 MILE NORTH ALONG ROAD FROM STATION, AT THE TOP OF NEXT RISE NORTH OF STATION AND WHERE ROAD IS NEXT VISIBLE, AT HIGHEST POINT OF RISE, 32 FEET WEST OF THE CENTER OF ROAD, AND IN BEARINN 02 DEG 50 MIN 18 SEC W FROM STATION, THE DISK IS STAMPED WAY 1956 AND SET IN THE TOP OF A 12-INCH CONCRETE TILE FILLED WITH CONCRETE AND PROJECTING 3 INCHES. TO REACH FROM LISBON GO SOUTH ON STATE HIGHWAY 164 FROM JUNCTION WITH U.S. HIGHWAY 30 AT COURT HOUSE AND CONTINUE SOUTH WHEN HIGHWAY 164 TURN WEST, AND GO SOUTH CROSSING RAILROAD TRACKS AND NARROW BRIDGE, THEN EAST ABOUT 0.25 MILE, TURN RIGHT AND GO SOUTH FOLLOWING A CROOKED WINDING ROAD OVER HILL THEN SOUTH BLACK TOP AND GRAVEL ROAD FOR ABOUT 5.0 MILES TO AZIMUTH ON RIGHT WEST OF ROAD, CONTINUE 0.25 MILE TO STATION ON RIGHT, AS DESCRIBED.

To reach the azimuth mark from the north junction of State Routes 164 and 518 about 0.2 mile east of the village of Gavers, go east on State Route 518 for about 1.7 miles to a crossroad. Turn left and go north on Steubenville Pike for 0.55 mile to the mark on the left. It is 64.8 feet north of a 10-inch white pine tree and 32 feet west of the center of Steubenville Pike.
