Long Description:
DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1949 (PLB) THE STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 3 MILES SOUTHEAST OF COLUMBIANA, 0.8 MILE WEST OF MIDDLETON, ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF A PAVED ROAD AND ON THE HIGHEST POINT OF A LOW, CULTIVATED KNOLL. IT IS ALONG THE LINE OF THE FIRST ROW OF APPLE TREES ON THE EASTERN SIDE OF AN ORCHARD. THE MARK IS FLUSH WITH THE SURFACE AND IS STAMPED MIDDLETON 1949. REFERENCE MARK NO. 1 IS A STANDARD DISK SET FLUSH WITH THE SURFACE IN THE CENTER ROW OF THE FIVE ROW ORCHARD. IT IS STAMPED MIDDLETON 1949 NO. 1. REFERENCE MARK NO. 2 IS SET FLUSH WITH THE SURFACE AND IN THE CENTER ROW OF THE ORCHARD. IT IS STAMPED MIDDLETON NO. 2 1949. THE AZIMUTH MARK IS A STANDARD DISK SET IN A 1 FOOT SQUARE CONCRETE POST ABOUT 0.7 MILE WEST OF MIDDLETON. IT IS 25.6 FEET NORTH OF THE CENTERLINE OF A MACADAM ROAD, 6.4 FEET WEST OF POWER POLE NO 602/48 AND 5 FEET SOUTH OF THE MOST EASTERLY TREE OF A ROW OF CHERRY TREES PLANTED PARALLEL TO THE HIGHWAY. IT IS STAMPED MIDDLETON 1949. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE INTERSECTION IN THE NORTH EDGE OF MIDDLETON, GO WEST ON A MACADAM HIGHWAY (UNNUMBERED) FOR 0.7 MILE TO THE AZIMUTH MARK ON THE RIGHT, CONTINUE 0.1 MILE TO A CULVERT ON THE LEFT WITH DIM TRACKS CROSSING INTO AN ORCHARD, TURN LEFT, CROSSING CULVERT AND FOLLOW TRACKS TO THE EAST ROW OF TREES AND THE STATION ON THE HIGHEST POINT OF THE ROW.
