Expanded Description:
New Page 1

Gas is $4.50 a gallon in California this week.    You work and shop in close proximity to your home.   It's not raining or snowing and the weather forecast looks good.   You've been thinking about starting an exercise program to lose those few unwanted extra pounds..   Saturday cartoons are done and you'd like to spend some quality time with your kids (or grandkids).  Can you see where this is going?

..................................

Bicycle Tenders has something for everyone, whether you plan to create a new waymark or visit an existing one.   Townships, cities, and even entire countries, are conducting Bike Rack competitions - looking for those 'unique', 'non-traditional', 'creative', 'artistic' solutions to storing, protecting or securing bicycles.    Schools and other public buildings, as well as many private businesses are installing commercial bicycle racks or lockers that are both functional and unusual, often even 'signature'.   It can be as simple as grate-work built into corner street light structures (specifically intended to secure bicycles) or as unusual as a large, artistic sculpture in a city square (again, specifically intended to secure bicycles).   Maybe just some sort of industrial equipment or part that has been permanently affixed to the sidewalk (or in a parking structure or at the entrance to a public building) for the sole purpose of having a place to secure or protect bicycles.   We want to see them all!

This category is intended to serve two purposes:

  • to discover and record those artistic/creative bicycle security and storage devices that would stand out as 'unique' among all the bicycle racks located in and around the waymarked location
  • to encourage people to seek out and use bicycle racks and lockers - in other words - Go Ride A Bike!

Those of you who are wanting to rack up the numbers can ride your bike all over town and waymark every traditional bicycle rack or locker or protective device you can find (driving a car is highly discouraged for this).       Please don't expect these to be approved any longer.

If you are waymarking those 'unique', 'non-traditional', 'functional piece of art', 'creative' or 'artistic'  bike storage or security devices, kudos to you!

One important note:   What appears to be unique to one person can seem entirely commonplace to another.    If the bike rack you are waymarking looks something like all the other bike racks in town, or is commercially mass-produced, it's probably 'TRADITIONAL' and not acceptable,  unless you can show that it has been placed in a unique manner, or has been 'embellished' with some form of artwork.    If  the bike rack is a 'unique' design but has been replicated all over the community, only the first submission will be considered  'unique' .

Instructions for Posting a Bicycle Tenders Waymark:
Coordinates must be personally obtained by the Waymarker. You must submit at least one original picture showing the bike rack (or locker, etc) AND one picture of the device in its environment. Extra point if there are bikes in there. Two extra points if one of the bikes is yours!
Instructions for Visiting a Waymark in this Category:
Please provide at least one original picture, and tell a little about your visit.

Did YOU ride your bike there?
