The Wee Fairy Doors of Ann Arbor, Mich (same as the article below but with photos of the doors and artist)

From: The Wee Fairy Doors of Ann Arbor, Mich.

Fairies, Gnomes,& Elves are settling in unimaginable places lately. At least, that's what a lot of people would like you to believe. All across several cities, "tiny doors" are popping up. These miniature doors which open into imagined wee folks homes; are unsponsored, unauthorized works of public art that have captured the imagination of several cities.

A six-inch white wooden door with a carved jamb framed by miniature bricks is said to be the first to appear, it is located outside Sweetwaterz Cafe in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Since the spring of last year, twenty more doors have appeared at businesses around Ann Arbors main street.

The human behind the fairy tale is illustrator Jonathon Wright. In 1993, his wife ran a preschool program in their home. On a whim, Wright installed a fairy door in the house. The children's delighted response prompted him to build more.

Noting that businesses in Ann Arbor's downtown section were struggling to attract customers, he thought fairy doors might help. "I'd like to see them thrive, and that's part of what I want to contribute," he says. "Something that's lasting and fun and that can maybe revitalize some interest in the downtown area."

And now children are leaving gifts for the fairies: pennies, candy, hand-knit socks made with tiny needles, teeny felt hats, and fairy-sized coloring books.

These doors might just pop up in your hometown soon as the Artist is selling the tiny doors to Fairy's, Gnomes, Elves & and all Fairy afficendos.

in Wee Folk Fairy Doors

Annabelle's Fairy House is hidden deep in the woods, miles above the town of Winfield, a secret and secluded home for, it is assumed, Annabelle the Fairy. It required months of diligent search to find this legendary, some think mythical, fairy home.
