Expanded Description:

Old 'Forts' can be found in the Americas, Asia, Africa, Europe and even on many Islands.
There are 'Forts' that were erected for defensive purposes, or as in Africa for the trading of slaves for which the term 'Slave Castles' has also been used as they also had luxurious apartments within them.
The Portuguese were the most prolific builders of Forts' but the French, Dutch, Danes and English were all in the Fort-owning business.
UNESCO has classified fifteen of these 'Forts' and 'Castles' as 'World Heritage Sites'
