Dairy Creameries
Managed By: Icon Here Cheese Curds
Description:
A category for documenting dairy creameries, places where milk and cream are (were) processed and where butter, cheese and other dairy products are made. The creameries may be still be in use, no longer in use or converted to other uses.
Expanded Description:
Dairy creameries are places where milk and cream are (or were) processed and where butter, cheese and other dairy products are made. Acceptable are current use creameries, creameries no longer in use or creameries that have been converted to other uses.

Much like barns and silos are historical and architectural buildings that should be preserved, dairy creameries represent the history and rural roots of a community. In addition, the buildings are architectural and historic gems worthy of a waymark.

Also acceptable and encouraged are dairy creameries which are farm site based and run as a dairy creamery outlet. Dairy Farms that produce dairy products on the farm site are acceptable as long as the waymark is a production facility and not just a retail outlet.

The dairies may or may not have a retail outlet. We are seeking the dairy production facility not the retail outlet. What we want. What we don't want.

This dairy is unusual for many reasons, but from a dairy/creamery point of view: because it still sells vat-pasteurized milk in returnable glass bottles.
