Graves of Unusual Deaths
Description:
The mission of this category is to seek out any and all graves of individuals with headstones or markers containing an unusual cause of death.
Expanded Description:
Wrap Text around ImageThe objective of the Graves of Unusual Deaths category is to provide a place to submit any worldwide graves (of at least five years of age) of individuals who've had their deaths mentioned from very unusual circumstances etched onto their headstone or marker. These graves may or may not be located in a cemetery or similar. Finding a grave such as this is VERY uncommon and if you locate one we want you to submit it here! These unusual deaths mentioned may include but are not limited to:

Murder
Suicide
Killed by a _________
Shot by _________
Assassinated
Accident (drowning, auto, etc.)
Hanging or Lynching
An engraved illustration on a headstone symbolizing the cause of death (an unusual find and worthy of this category)

Since millions of people have died from certain illnesses and disease (typhoid fever, plague, cholera, influenza, etc.) this category will NOT allow submissions of graves noting these causes of death UNLESS it is a rare illness or disease listed. We officers will use our best judgment to determine if an unusual death submission meets our requirements (or not).

Instructions for Posting a Graves of Unusual Deaths Waymark:

*PLEASE NOTE* This category will NOT accept any submission of a grave less than five years of age.

When titling your waymark, please follow the naming convention below:

Name of Grave - Anytown, USA

You may also include the name of the cemetery in the title if you desire.

Please include a minimum of TWO photos for your waymark. One photo should be a close-up of the grave and unusual cause of death. The second photo should be an area shot of the grave and surrounding area to help others locate it to visit. Additional photos are appreciated.

SPECIAL NOTE: While the details outlined in our category description, and the requirements listed in the posting instructions, cover the MINIMUM elements and standards for all waymarks in this category, each waymark will also be evaluated by a volunteer reviewer for overall quality and appropriateness. If a reviewer deems that there are deficiencies in some aspect of the waymark, the waymark may be either declined or accepted with request for changes and/or additions in either content or format.

Each waymark will be evaluated on its own merits. We will endeavor to be reasonable and flexible while maintaining the quality standards for the category. If there is a disagreement, try to work it out with the evaluating officer, or appeal to the group leader, but we reserve the right to accept or decline a waymark based on our best judgement.

LANGUAGE NOTE: We recognize waymarking as a global hobby and welcome waymarks from all countries. Because of our international scope, we also acknowledge ENGLISH as our lingua franca. English will create the highest level of accessibility globally. All waymarks must have at least a short description in ENGLISH. We encourage bilingual and multilingual waymarks, but one of the languages must be English. We have volunteer translators to help.

Relying on software or internet based translators, such as Babylon and Google Translate, may NOT yield accurate translations that are intelligible. Use these only when there is no alternative. Although we do not expect grammatical perfection, a waymark may be declined if there the English language is not understandable.

Instructions for Visiting a Waymark in this Category:
When posting a visit to an unusual grave, please include the minimum of one picture of your visit as proof that you were there in the flesh.

Although not required, please include your personal experience of this location.
